The view from the Kain Hut is quite spectacular.
All the surrounding spires look tantalizingly close, but some require a two or
three hour approach just to reach the base of the climb.
The Hound's Tooth and Marmolata for example are surrounded by some
nasty icefalls.
To climb the Hound's Tooth (right of center, the snowcapped mountain in
the foreground with the large black face) required a roundabout route
to avoid the broken icefall...
