The Bugaboos are completely hidden from view until you've left
the highway and driven 48 km of logging road, deep into the Purcell
Range.
Only then does this alpine Shangri-La reveal itself.
But before we can start the 700m (2200 ft) ascent to the Kain Hut, we
have to protect our vehicle from porcupines who like to chew on brake
cables and wires.
The last thing we want is to find out the hard way that we don't have
any brakes while driving 48km back down the logging road.
Wayne surrounds the truck with chicken wire, held in place with sticks and
rocks, to thwart the little varmints.
