The narrow detached tongue of snow (in shadow at the top of
the photo) is the only way to cross the moat onto the rock of the North
Buttress. To climb that narrow tongue of snow however, requires
crossing the narrow rotten snow bridge that leads from the foreground to the
steep corniced snow behind. Oh, and although we can't see it in
the photo, just below the snow bridge and the corniced snow
behind there's a drop of several metres onto the rocks at the
bottom of the moat.
