Just past the gendarme, Wayne and I both secure ourselves
by slinging a horn on the narrow upper ridge leading from the NorthWest
Buttress to the summit of Alpha.
We descended the route via 5 rappels and 2 traversing pitches
on the steep snow & rock face visible in the center of the Alpha Mountain photo. Our line of descent
followed pretty closely the line between sunshine and shadow in that photo, although on this day there was no sun and
no shadow as we descended into a whiteout, unable to see through the
mist to find our way across the huge bergshrund.
