Current Pathfinder Modifications

As mentioned in my Off-Roading Interests page, I bought my truck expressly for the purpose of getting me safely into and out of the mountains.  The type of off-roading this involves includes low-traction hill climbs or descents, washouts, lots of snow, and off-camber situations. I have concentrated on upgrades to the truck to allow it to perform better in these conditions.  I plan to continue the buildup with additional modifications in a logical sequence.

My vehicle is a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder SE (5-speed manual transmission, 3.0L V6), to which I have added the following enhancements:

Engine & Drivetrain:

Suspension & Steering:
Note: with the tires listed above and the suspension setup listed below, the vehicle ramps an RTI of 807. Protection & Recovery:
  • Smittybilt dual tubular bumpers front & rear, custom cut for winch mount (photo)
  • Warn X8000i winch, with custom mount strengthened for side loading (photo)
  • QuickAir 2 on-board air compressor (photo) & 5 gal tank (photo)
  • custom skid plates from front bumper to transfer case cross-member
  • custom rock sliders
  • custom low-profile cargo box for my repair & recovery equipment (photo)

Convenience Enhancements

  • B&M Launch Control hydraulic front & rear brake line locks (photo)
  • hand-operated locking cable throttle
  • Uniden PRO520XL CB radio with Wilson Silver Load Flex antenna
  • Sony 10-disc CD changer
  • PIAA 9004 ultra-bright headlamp bulbs
  • PIAA 1500 XT auxiliary driving lights
  • 50 watt halogen high-output backup bulbs
  • a really lousy cupholder
