- Do not eat for 2-3 hours before practicing yoga.
- Never practice under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you are
taking medication, consult your physician before proceeding.
- Don't aggravate an existing injury. If you are creative, you can
work around it and ultimately help the healing process. If you have a
chronic or congenital injury, disability, or mental/physical illness,
please follow the advice of a qualified health professional.
- It is best to practice yoga in bare feet.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
- Have a blanket handy for relaxation.
Some people experience different sensations after practicing yoga. Old
patterns, habits, and traumas may get processed and part of you will want to
resist. You can either abandon the quest, indulge in the discomfort, or go
forward.
Be aware of the following:
- You may become more aware of unresolved feelings from the past.
- You may sweat more than usual
- You may feel a need for more sleep
- You may feel dizzy or nauseous
Don't be alarmed. These are all short lived and symptomatic of healing and
purification. Drink plenty of water, sleep when you feel the need.
Don't indulge in analyzing the process, but don't hesitate to speak to me about
what you may be going through.
Tip for Headaches and Lightheadedness:
Wear a hat, preferably one that fits tight. This will adjust the bones in your
head and help ease the headache. The hat helps to contain energy around your
head.
Tip for Sitting in Easy Pose:
If you are having discomfort sitting in easy pose, bring a small cushion to sit
on. By placing a cushion under your butt, your knees will come down lower and
this will ease the pressure you may be feeling in the legs and back.
