A mantra is a consciously chosen thought. Mantras have a vibratory effect and are repeated mentally or out loud for focus and to relax and uplift you. The mantras of Kundalini Yoga allow you to channel your attention and let go of your attachments, producing stillness - a zero point in consciousness.

As we repeat mantras, the movement of the tongue stimulates an array of meridian points on the palate of the mouth, activating neuro-transmitters in the brain. This stimulates the hypothalamus and makes adjustments to create a neutral balanced mind, conquer depression, strengthen the immune system, enhance intelligence and intuition, and open the power of compassion.

Chanting opens the heart and neutralizes destructive patterns. Chanting erases bad luck and stimulates the hypothalamus, pituitary, and pineal glands to secrete the nectar "Amrit".

Mantra for Tuning In - Adi Mantra - A sound wave to direct the mental vibration

Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo

Ong is Infinite Creative Energy. It is a variation of the cosmic syllable Om. In the functioning creative state it becomes Ong. To chant slightly pull in the navel-point and vibrate the ng at the root of the nose.

Namo (pronounced "nah - moe") has the same root as the word "namaste" which means reverent greeting or I bow to you.

Guru (pronounced g'roo - roll the r off the roof of the mouth) is the teacher or the embodiment of wisdom. Gu means darkness and ru means lightness, so Guru means that which takes one from darkness to lightness.

Dev (pronounced "dave") means transparent (without distortion, easily understood, discernment).

Namo is repeated once again.

The Adi Mantra is a creative projection of the mind through sound. It is an invitation to your higher consciousness to guide the course of your experience. It passes an inner spark from person to person and makes you receptive and sensitive to the messages of your mind, body, and intuition. Repetition builds power.

Seed Mantra:

SAT NAM - meaning true identity

Concluding all Kundalini Yoga Sessions:

We always conclude each Kundalini yoga session by singing the following:

May the long time Sun shine upon you
All love surround you
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on.
